Hey, I'll Put Some New Shoes On
And Suddenly Everything Is Right

Ladies ... I think we've found our new anthem ...

Just try to look past the odd looking Brit singing it - he's got a good idea ... brand new shoes!

Meet Me In The Clouds
Let Me Work It Out
Don't You Take It Personal

So I'm useless for actual blogging right now ...

Go check out these two bands instead:

Army of Me - Alternative Rock, I suppose ...
Their whole CD plays automatically when you bring up their page

Under The Influence of Giants - Funk/Fusion/80s inspired
Three full tracks are available under music ("In The Clouds" is the song that got me turned on to this band but "Mama's Room" is catchy too)

Keep yourselves entertained ... I know how you get when you're bored

HelloGoodbye

With the obvious negative mood I've been under, I went looking for something to make me smile and bounce around my room like I so love to do.

I discovered the boppy, sometimes silly sounds of HelloGoodbye.** It was the first track, Here (in your arms), that sent me looking for them.

When I went looking for something mindless, it fit the bill perfectly (well at least on the first couple tracks) ... so I've been listening to them off and on the past two days.

If you're anything like me and need a stupid girl moment, check these boys out.

**Purevolume.com has a wide variety of music and genres where you can listen to full tracks for free. Well worth the look if you want to discover something beyond mainstream radio.

Better Late Than Never

But damn I wish I had found this song a few relationships ago ...

"Before He Cheats"

Right now he's probably slow dancing with a bleach blonde tramp,
and she's probably getting frisky...
right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink cause she can't shoot whiskey...

Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool-stick, showing her how to shoot a combo...

And he don't know...

That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat...
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

Right now, she's probably up singing some
white-trash version of Shania karaoke..
Right now, she's probably saying "I'm drunk"
and he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky,
Right now, he's probably dabbing on 3 dollars worth of that bathroom polo...
And he don't know...

That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat,
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

I might saved a little trouble for the next girl,
Cause the next time that he cheats...

Oh, you know it won't be on me!

Ohh... not on me...
Cause I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat...
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...

Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.

Ohh.. Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats...

Ohh... before he cheats...

Lyrics Worth a Date?

In a blatant cry for help to boost my spirits ... and since music is such an effective form of communication with my heart ... I'm posing an application to date me, of sorts ...

I'm asking readers - men and women alike - to leave a comment with the song lyrics they'd play for me in their version of a standing outside my window Say Anything moment. Or perhaps the lyrics they'd play mid-relationship as a reminder to me. Maybe just some sweet and touching words.

I'm constantly hearing lyrics that I wish were words said by someone that mattered ... so here's your chance to make a sad girl smile ...

The Fray

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through

That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
and

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Just say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
You find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between
and

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down

I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows
She's on your mind

Everone knows I'm in
Over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm over my

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime

She's on your mind
She's on your mind

John Rzeznik

I am a question to the world
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment that's held in your arms

And what do you think you'd ever say
I won't listen anyway
You don't know me
And I'll never be what you want
Me to be

And what
Do you think you'd understand
I'm boy, no, I'm a man
You can't take me
And throw me away

And how
Can you learn what's never shown

Yeah, you stand here on your own
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here

[Chorus]
And I want a moment to be real
Want to touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong

And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here

And you see the things they never see
All you wanted - I could be
Now you know me
And I'm not afraid

And I want to tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am

[Chorus]

And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They can't see me
But I'm still here

They can't tell me who to be
'Cause I'm not what they see
Yeah, the world is still sleepin' while I keep on dreaming for me
And their words are just whispers and lies that I'll never believe

[Chorus]

And how can you say I'll never change
They're the ones that stay the same
I'm the one now
'Cause I'm still here

I'm the one
'Cause I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here

Groove Salad

I just discovered that one of my favorite TV characters, Greg Sanders on CSI is played by an actor that shares one of my secret loves...

Eric Szmanda also likes to listen to the odd, wicked, soothing, melodic tunes of the internet radio station Groove Salad

How cool is that?

I'd Rather Do You On the Backseat of My Car

Ugh... is this what dating again is going to be like?

"Kylie" by Akcent**
Kylie give me
Kylie give me

Baby, you're the one that melt my heart
I swear I'm not lying
Maybe tonight I'm gonna try my luck
I can see that you want me
I'm dreaming about you every night
Every night

refrain:
Kylie give me just a chance
Let's go out and dance
We can get into the groove
I can watch you move
Later you can sing to me
Like a shining star
But I rather do you on the backseat of my car
(2x)

Baby, take a minute check me out
I sit in the frontrow
Baby I'm the coolest guy in the crowd
I'm sure you have seen me
I'm dreaming about you every night
every night

refrain

You drive me crazy
You slowly drive me crazy
Think about you baby
Can't get you out of my mind
I should be lucky
I should be so lucky
I should be lucky to sleep with you tonight

Kylie
Kylie

refrain

Kylie give me

Little Big Town

As I find myself home on a Saturday night, dog-sitting and writing half of my 20-24 pgs for Science & Technology Policy paper due Mon, I am also enjoying the new tunes from Little Big Town.

Their CD, released last month, can be heard here on CMT.com*

It's also a very soothing set of songs to sing along with. Track 4: Bring it on Home, Track 6: A Little More You, Track 13: Stay (acoustic) are my favorites.

Damn Right

I love me some Terri Clark and her new CD has a song that says just how I feel about all these bloggers I've been going on and on about. As she says, "You're damn right I'm gonna miss you"

I'm not gonna lie or act like I'm that tough
There might be a tear in my eye
when I'm watching that airplane liftin up
I was never much for tellin you how much you meant
But I need you to know you were heaven sent

We went together like
highways and T-birds
Saturday sinners and Sunday church
and lookin back and crying and laughin
at the life between us too

we went together like memories and long gones
cowboys and sad old songs
after all of the holdin on tight that we went through
you're damn right I'm gonna miss you

I guess there are times
that all of us relearn
that life is a book and the pages
you know they're about to turn
and I don't know where the story ends
where its gonna go now
just as long as this chapter tells the whole world how

We went together like
highways and T-birds
Saturday sinners and Sunday church
and lookin back and crying and laughing
at the life between us too

we went together like memories and long gones
cowboys and sad old songs
after all of the holdin on tight that we went through
you're damn right I'm gonna miss you

Til next time...I'll lift my glass to your honor

Dream Big

While I was away having a grand ol time this weekend, trying to forget my troubles, Buckethead (of The Ministry of Minor Perfidy) has been trying to put together this week's Carnival of Music...

After finding what I believe could be friends for life this weekend, I think this little inspirational ditty is a more than appropriate submission from me. Because you never know what you minght find behind just a little hope and a prayer ... or a leap of faith, if you will ... I know I sure didn't see it comin ...

See the "Dream Big" video (not firefox friendly)

When you cry, be sure to dry your eyes,
'Cause better days are sure to come.
And when you smile, be sure to smile wide,
And don't let them know that they have won.
And when you walk, walk with pride,
And don't show the hurt inside,
Because the pain will soon be gone.

(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
But when you dream, dream big.

And when you laugh, be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty all around and in yourself,
And it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to help to carry on,
But when the troubles come your way.

(Chorus)
And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
when you dream, dream big.

(Dream big.)
(Dream big.)

And when you laugh be sure to laugh out loud,
'Cause it will carry all your cares away.
And when you see, see the beauty
all around and in yourself, and it will help you feel okay.
And when you pray, pray for strength to
help to carry on when the troubles come your way.

And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
when you dream, dream big.

And when you dream, dream big,
As big as the ocean, blue.
'Cause when you dream it might come true.
when you dream, dream big.

The Right Brothers

Remember that catchy little tune I told you about? The one that The Right Brothers did at the rally to support military families last weekend... You know, "Bush Was Right!" Well they've put up a 50 second preview of the song, published their lyrics, put the single on pre-sale for October, and will release a $0.99 MP3 version available on their website Oct 4.

Go hear the jingle for yourself ... at the very least you have to giggle at the antagonistic tone ... na na nana na na ... Oh, and I never said it was musical genius, just fun...

If you're too lazy to go join in my fun, at least read the lyrics below the fold...

Freedom in Afghanistan, say goodbye Taliban
Free elections in Iraq, Saddam Hussein locked up
Osama’s staying underground, Al Qaida now is finding out
America won’t turn and run once the fighting has begun
Libya turns over nukes, Lebanese want freedom, too
Syria is forced to leave, don’t you know that all this means

Chorus
Bush was right!
Bush was right!
Bush was right!

Democracy is on the way, hitting like a tidal wave
All over the middle east, dictators walk with shaky knees
Don’t know what they’re gonna do, their worst nightmare is coming true
They fear the domino effect, they’re all wondering who’s next

Repeat Chorus

Ted Kennedy – wrong!
Cindy Sheehan – wrong!
France – wrong!
Zell Miller – right!

Economy is on the rise kicking into overdrive
Angry liberals can't believe it's cause of W's policies
Unemployment's staying down, Democrats are wondering how
Revenue is going up, can you say "Tax Cuts"

Repeat Chorus

Cheney was right, Condi was right, Rummy was right, Blair was right
You were right, we were right, “The Right” was right and Bush was right
Bush was right!
Bush was right!

You Mean, That's Not Supposed to Happen?

SHE SAID I'M GOING OUT WITH MY GIRLFRIENDS
MARGARITAS AT THE HOLIDAY INN
OH HAVE MERCY...MY ONLY THOUGHT
CUZ TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

I TOLD HER PUT AN EXTRA LAYER ON
I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SHE DRINKS PATRON
HER CLOSETS MISSING HALF THE THINGS SHE BOUGHT
YEAH TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

Chorus:
SHE'LL START BY KICKING OUT OF HER SHOES
LOSE AN EARRING IN HER DRINK
LEAVE HER JACKET IN THE BATHROOM STALL
DROP A CONTACT DOWN THE SINK

THEM PANTYHOSE AIN'T GONNA LAST TOO LONG
IF THE D J PUTS BON JOVI ON (oh yeah...)
SHE MIGHT COME HOME IN A TABLECLOTH
YEAH TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

SHE CAN HANDLE ANY CHAMPAGNE BRUNCH
BRIDAL SHOWER WITH BACARDI PUNCH
JELLO SHOOTERS FULL OF SMIRNOFF...
BUT TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

CHORUS

SHE DON'T MEAN NOTHING
SHE'S JUST HAVING FUN
TOMORROW SHE'LL SAY
OH WHAT HAVE I DONE
HER FRIENDS WILL JOKE ABOUT THE STUFF SHE LOST
YEAH TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

OH TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

YEAH TEQUILA MAKES HER CLOTHES FALL OFF

-sung by Joe Nichols

And here I always thought that was what tequila was meant to do...
Guess I was doing it all wrong all those college nights I spent shooting tequila at my favorite bar. But hot damn those were some great Wednesday nights...

I Will Not Be Broken

There have been a lot of rough and dramatic patches over the last year of my life. In fact, I've come to be known as a drama magnet by my friends. Some days it gets to be too much and I just sit in the dark and cry. Some days I forget to cry and just sit there numb. But when it comes right down to it, I will not be broken. If you too are having a tough go of it and need the same reminder, Bonnie Raitt has it for you on her new CD released Tuesday.*

That was then and this is now
Found my way back here somehow.
Knew you’d have to let me go
I told you once, I told you so

take me down, you can hold me but you can't hold what's within
roll me 'round, push me to the limit
maybe I may bend
but I know where I'm not going
I will not be broken
I will not be broken
I will not be someone other than who I am
I will fight to make my stand

‘cause what is living if I can’t live free
what is freedom if I can’t be me

take me down, you can hold me but you can't hold what's within
roll me 'round push, me to the limit
maybe I may bend
but I know where I'm not going

I will not be broken
I will not be broken

I won’t let you near it
I will let my spirit fly
Fly
High

Oh take me down
take me down, you can hold me but you can't hold what's within
roll me 'round, push me to the limit
maybe I may bend
but we both know where I’m not going
I will not be broken
I will not be broken
I will not be broken

Hanna-McEuen

Two sons of members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band have gotten together and released their first CD. The new duo has taken the moniker Hanna-McEuen, a simple joining of their last names.

They may seem familiar to you already as their song "Something Like a Broken Heart" has had radio play for several months now. But I urge you take a closer listen to the rest of their CD.

I can't quite put my finger on why but it is a CD I can't stop playing. Sure, I skip a song or two here and there but overall it is a very enveloping collection of tunes.

Hop on over to CMT.com and check out the free listen they have of the entire CD in their listening party...but it's only up for a limited time.

My current favs are: "Read Between The Lines," "Prayer For You," "Is It Only Me," and "Ocean."

Oh, btw... the listening party usually only works with IE, sorry Firefoxers...

SugarLand

Oh, I swear this town gets smaller every day
And I'm waiting for my chance, I'm gonna break away
I'm so sick and tired of being told what's good for me
People got lots of ideas of who I'm supposed to be

Angel, carry me, oh so far away
May my body never touch the ground
And if I promise you I'll be back someday
Will you set me free, so I can fly away?
Fly away, fly away

The Wrights

I've been listening to their new CD that will be released 03 May on CMT's listening party. They are a very descriptive and touching group. I've had the songs on in the background while I try to do research and they have managed to keep me somewhat sane. The songs just have a way of taking you from where you are and putting you in a whole new scene.

Go check it out.

Where Does The Good Go?

where do you go with your broken heart in tow
what do you do with the left over you
and how do you know, when to let go
where does the good go, where does the good go
look me in the eye and tell me you don't find me attractive
look me in the heart and tell me you won't go
look me in the eye and promise no love's like our love
look me in the heart and un break broken, it won't happen
it's love that breaks the seal of always thinking you would be
real, happy and healthy, strong and calm,
where does the good go, where does the good go
where do you go when you're in love and the world knows
how do you live so happily while I am sad and broken down
what do you say it's up for grabs now that you're on your way down
where does the good go, where does the good go
--Teagan & Sara

This song came on as a closing to a TV show tonight. I was walking back and forth from the folding laundry to the pile that still needed folding. I was numb to the world when I caught a glimpse of my face in the mirror, distorted and sad. Just hearing the song, one I had never heard before in my life, threw me off. Without even knowing it I was holding back tears triggered by the song, refusing to let its lyrics touch me fully. I would not let myself cry tonight.
But I still ask, where does the good go?

Jo Dee Messina

I am absolutely positively in love with Jo Dee Messina's new CD "Delicious Surprise" that comes out on the 26th of this month. I like the single getting radio play. "My Give A Damn's Busted," but the rest of the song on this CD are even more fantastic. I've been listening to it all night while working on avoiding my powerpoint for tomorrow.
I highly recommend that you give the CD a try - you can even have a free listen to the entire CD on CMT's listening party right now.
